For those of you who remember the golden age of hot rodding, you know that shows and cruise-ins weren’t the only place you showed off your hot rod or custom. No way — you took them everywhere, from the burger stand to the drag strip to the drive-in movies.
Ryan Cochran, founder of the Jalopy Journal and the H.A.M.B., wants to see hot rods at a drive-in again, so he’s planning the first-ever Hot Rod Cinematic, a combination car show and triple feature drive-in, for June 30.
Though a Texas boy, Cochran put a nationwide APB on the H.A.M.B. for the coolest vintage drive-in still in operation in the United States and chose the Kanauga Drive-In in Gallipolis, Ohio, right on the Ohio River a couple of hours south of Columbus. Cochran hasn’t announced the films for the triple feature yet, but knowing his tastes, they’re gonna be good.
Registration should be open in the coming weeks. Check out www.hotrodcinematic.com, for more details
